On April 20, at around 7:05 AM, an unidentified male aged approximately 40 was found lying unconscious with a head injury on the footpath in front of premises no. 105, M.G. Road, Kolkata-700007. The man was immediately taken to Medical College and Hospital by an on-duty police officer from Jorasanko Police Station and was admitted for treatment. Later that same day, at approximately 6:00 PM, the man died in the hospital. Jorasanko Police registered a case of unnatural death, vide Jorasanko U.D. Case No. 06 dated April 21.
An inquest and post mortem examination were conducted following the death. According to the post mortem report, the cause of death was due to the effects of antemortem head injuries, which were described as homicidal in nature. Using standard investigation techniques, the deceased was identified as Md Nasim, aged 30, son of Salauddin, a resident of 54B Phari Bagan under Kamarhati Police Station, Kolkata-58. Based on the post mortem findings, a specific case was initiated under Jorasanko PS Case No. 89 dated April 23, under sections 103(1)/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against unknown persons.
During the investigation, CCTV footage was collected from the surrounding area. Based on the analysis of this footage, police arrested Shahnawaz Islam, aged 24, son of Md. Islam, a resident of 116/H/3 M.G. Road, Kolkata. The arrest was made on the morning of April 24. Investigation into the case is ongoing to establish further facts and identify any other individuals involved.
